Spargers are devices used for the continuous injection of gas bubbles into liquids. They have many applications in different areas such as: bioreactors, bubble columns, fluidized beds, fixed beds, column flotations, aeration, direct steamers. A well-designed sparger should consider three important parameters:
1) Minimum pressure drop and maximum possible gas flow rate across the sparger
2) Minimum bubble size
3) Minimum non-uniformity in gas distribution
4) No weep condition
Considering this, GREENBMG fabricated spargers that are capable of producing bubbles with minimum size, pressure drop, non-uniformity, and weeping condition.
Bubble size has a significant effect on mass transfer. By reducing the produced bubbles size, the interface area between liquids and gas increase
When G-BMG spargers are coated with cupper oxide they can be efficiently applied in non polar liquids like kerosene and micro bubble columns, where no bubble size exceeds 100 μm are formed as compared to existing macro-bubble columns. Unlike existing commercial spargers, the bubble size here is less than 100 μm in kerosene, thus, a tenfold reduction in size. These new spargers, due to the presence of copper oxide layer in their structure and possessing the preferential wettability on the surface promote broader applications even in non-polar liquids, like oil and gas. At a gas flow rate within 30-120 LPH range two distinct regions of foam and froth are formed. A foam liquid region is observed at the higher 120-360 LPH range. .
